You forgot to add that you had served on the Soba America executive, I believe as vice president 2001 to 2007 and only announced your brief departure to go and attend medical school, before coming back to serve us again as vice president this second tour. You also missed the 2007 convention because it conflicted with the wedding of your best friend, which is understandable.


During your first tour on the Soba America executive, you championed the Sick Bay project and other philanthropic initiatives and your executive purchased and sent enough blankets for all beds in the Sick Bay, which are still in use today.


Equally, you championed your 1986 class as moderator of one of the first (if not the first) class email groups, which united classmates from across the globe and collectively supported those with financial difficulties and went as far as raising and gifting funds to classmates with death in the family and also to some as capital to start businesses, which resolved their financial hardship and took care of families. Other Sasse classes learned from your initiative and launched theirs in similar ways, while always commending your 1986 class for being a "strong" class. If you can do for Soba America what you did for your 1986 class, we will surely go to greater heights.


 Even though you had what it takes to be president of Soba America on your own, you opted to serve as vice president first. That is your biggest asset, humility. 


Unless they opt to not run for president, vice presidents are important and true humble servants of this organization and even though we are democratic, should naturally earn our votes to be president each time.


Voting Dr. Fote as president of Soba America, is for continuing to elevate our alumni association above the rest.

I am a classmate to would be SOBA USA President, Dr Bertrand Pokam Fote. Through out our great and successful years in SJC, Sasse, this gentleman has shown the power of success and leadership bestowed on him by the Almighty. My Fellow SOBA America Brethren:


I wish to use this opportunity to endorse the candidacy of Dr. Bertrand Fote for President of our illustrious organization. He is the right man for the job at this time given how closely he has worked with President Mafany for the last several years. He is an innovator and has been a great asset in the current administration. Many can express the desire to lead an association and I am sure they will do fine, but only very few have what it takes to do a great job. At this point in Soba America history, we do not want someone who will be good but rather someone who will be great. I know Bertrand very well from 1986 when he came to Sasse in Form 1 when I was in Form 4. We were both in St. Kitt’s. I was his ASP and then SP. With my background, at least, I can say that I recognize the qualities of great leadership in someone when I see those qualities. But, let me share with you some of the qualities Bertrand possesses that are qualities of great leaders and that will bode well for him as our next Soba America President.

 Soban Brian has written a much acclaimed write up. *Many of us have praised this young Soban and fine gentleman for his brilliance and service to Soba America. He is already working his way up the ladder of Soba America while building the experience that he needs to run the organization in a not-too distance future. He is also working hard to recruit more Sobans into the family. His day of leadership will soon come. On the day that he will announce his candidacy to run for the highest office of Soba America, many of us will be happy for him. We will be citing his accomplishments within Soban America, harnessed over years of participation, devotion and service at both the chapter and national levels. That’s the reward for dedication, service, commitment and experience. That is how we nurture “stability, continuity, and growth”, to quote directly from Brian’s write up.*


I think that any Soban who truly appreciates the brilliance of Soba Njotsa will readily agree with me that Dr Fote has checked all the boxes that Soban Brian articulates. *Dr Fote was a very active member of SOBA DMV, SOBA New England and Soba America even while he was in Medical School, and we all know the challenges of Med School and Residency in this country. Dr Fote has done a lot to contribute to the greatness of Soba America which we all enjoy today. He joined SOBA America in the nineties!!!* Some of his contributions were done in the spotlight but a lot was done when no one was watching.


It’s unfortunate that many Sobans attend conventions but few attend the Saturday morning mass. Fewer Sobans even acknowledge the fact that Dr Fote is the brain behind these services. He spends countless sleepless hours to put the mass together-coming up with the program for the mass, picking out the songs, putting together both the mass and the songs in a pamphlet; print the pamphlets and bring them to the mass. On top of all these, not only does he attend the mass, he plays the piano during the entire mass.


I spoke with Dr Fote sometime ago about the new Soba Identification badges and something he told me still blows my mind. He told me that when he received all the components for the badges, there was a serious glitch with the system and it took him two consecutive sleepless nights to work on the machine alongside the manufacturer to fix the glitch because the alternative was to send back the machine to the manufacturer but that would have caused a delay to the extend that the machine would not have been delivered on time. This is the kind of commitment and dedication that few people know about Dr Fote.


*Hear Brian Njotsa: “I will also like us to be keen on voting those who will serve the association and work tirelessly and be on the watch against those who want to be President for name recognition and also status.” I couldn’t agree more with this assertion. Dr Bertrand has a verifiable record of tirelessly working hard behind the scenes for Soba America.* He is someone who is averse to tooting his own horn and those who know him personally will attest to this. Even when no one is watching or cheering him on, he gives more than 100% to the work of Soba America without even seeking recognition for such work.


*If we truly want stability, continuity and growth, should we look to someone that we have voted FIVE TIMES as our Vice President? That’s how a leader a groomed and we have all groomed Dr Fote for the highest office of Soba America.* Not only has Dr Fote proven all the attributes of a leader, it’s amazing how he stays so humble without any sense of entitlement despite all his achievements as a member of Soba America and beyond. Furthermore, he does not, and has never taken, anything for granted. He has continued to be the tireless servant of Soba America. I believe that it’s time for Soba America to make use of someone that it has groomed for many years to take the mantle of leadership. Similarly, we are already grooming Brian Njotsa to one day lead this esteemed organization. We are looking to this endeavor paying dividends in near future.


The stakes are high for Soba. We need to be wise with our votes. *If Soba America truly needs “stability, continuity and growth” as Soban Brian Njotsa rightly puts it, and which most of agree, we need someone who has been part of the stability, continuity and growth of Soba America over the years.*

Let's be real. All these fine gentlemen running (President Ako and JN Fomenky) are good people and I am sure they're doing a fine job leading their class group or have a  post in SOBA America and I respect that.


But Dr Fote has been TIME tested over and over again and has a proven track record of leadership and accomplishments (please read his manifesto) that will surely sustain the SOBA America STABILITY, ensure CONTINUITY and improve and maintain GROWTH for SOBA America ✅


You see, SOBA America leadership is not a popularity contest and it's not a personality contest.  
I have no doubt that the other fine candidates have the love for SOBA and want the best.


But at the end of the day, when all is said and done, in May 2019 in DC, SOBANS will make a choice as to which candidate is  BEST EQUIPPED at this time to lead the GREATEST BROTHERHOOD the world has ever seen, SOBA AMERICA....
